Awakenings Health Institute putting a team together to ride the Rosarito Ensenada Bike Ride on Sunday, September 27, 2008. The course is 50 miles and overlooks some of the most beautiful Mexican coastline and countryside.

AHI hosts "Working Together" Conference & Workshop
On June 20th and 21st, 2008 Awakenings Health Institute located in Solana Beach, California will be hosting the 1st annual ‘Working Together’ Conference. This will be a gathering of thirteen Intensive Exercise-Based Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Facilities, unified in the common goal of maximizing health, wellness, and quality of life for individuals with paralysis.
The objective of this conference is to form a national association, which will afford its members an increased sphere of influence and credibility within the field of Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation. ‘Working Together’ will establish guidelines for exercise-based assessment, treatment protocols, and education of clients in order to establish industry standards and maintain consistency. Cutting edge therapies and equipment that compliment recovery will be among the many discussed topics for this much needed event.
It is our goal to increase awareness of the service we provide and how we can fill the void following the end of medically established acute rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury . We will update the site with news as it develops!
SCI is headline at next Sharp’s Challenged Women's Support Initiative
The Challenged Women's Support Initiative's next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 11:30 -1:30pm in the Grace Benbough Room at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital.
This Month's group entitled “Independent Living” will feature a film called “Key Changes” about a women and her struggle to regain her life after a spinal cord injury.
A peer support discussion will follow where members will have an opportunity to share their feelings about his/her disability positive and negative struggles faced on a daily basis, how they relate to the film and our own struggles in striving to gain a greater independence.

"They Will Surf Again"
Recently, Awakenings participated in "They Will Surf Again , " sponsored by the Life Rolls On Foundation. Many clients of Awakenings participated in the event. Additionally, Awakenings client Matthew Wild was featured in a news story in the North County Times. Matthew is a client at Awakenings who works out three days a week, doing both personal training and gait training. Matt is a quadriplegic after being injured in May 2003 in a diving accident.
